From Instructional Design to Best Practices: Approaches to Corporate e-Training of Technicians

Abstract: Development of digital multimedia technologies is the primary foundations of viable e-learning. Content, technologies and services have emerged as the three main components of the e-learning industry (Nagy 05). Formulating best practices for designing e-learning instruction targeting extremely hazardous and/or delicate service technologies revolutionize modern instructional design. As mishandling can cause either serious injury or death to individuals and/or damage to equipment. This best practices session discusses a successful corporate technical e-training program based on strategic instructional design and multimedia content. Learners respond to the course with appropriate learning outcomes, attaining proper attitudes before attempting procedural exercises. While much data driven research continues to explore developing e-learning techniques, this highly adaptable approach to instructional design underscores a successful methodology.

Video Multimedia and Pedagogical Approaches to e-Training Technicians: The Next Generation

Abstract: Media integration into educational materials has greatly evolved in the past century. It has taken on technological features that enable highly dynamic multimedia presentations delivered in hypermedia e-learning environments. Since the inception of video multimedia integration into instructional environments little has been know about the impact it has on teaching and learning. Integrating video content into e-training utilizing a framework of traditional pedagogical practices is seen as a model that accounts for the impact video has on the instructional process and learning outcomes. This presentation discusses video as supporting guided practice in a digital direct instruction model of e-training. Learners successfully interact with video and master skills coupled with hands on practice. Recent research supporting video in e-training environments is promising. This project also introduces a new micro-model for delivering multimedia in e-training environments.

Video Documentaries as Content and Tools to New Learning Experiences:
Recreating History with Shared Resources

Abstract: Video multimedia permeates nearly every aspect of our social cultural worlds today. Students are exceptionally media literate. Buckingham (2007) speaks of the new digital divide though as while the media poor and rich remain, educational and home media experiences are also experiencing a divide. Taking advantage of students’ media literacy is viewed as a new channel to communication and classroom educational opportunities. This presentation demonstrates a new project and experience of creating a historical documentary film for education. Experiences emergent as relevant to classroom curriculum are discussed. Resources and suggestions for integrating video filmmaking into curriculum are described. Applications of the project’s discoveries are described as a methodology for filmmaking in classroom teaching and learning activities.
